Elena Lazarou – Get to know our Research Team

The Jean Monnet Research Project “The reconfiguration of the EU presence in Latin America”  – in short: @EUinLAC – brings together an interdisciplinary team of young and established scholars, balanced in gender and age. Short bio – Elena Lazarou:

Dr Elena Lazarou is an associate fellow in the US and the Americas Programme at Chatham House, providing insights on themes related to Brazilian politics and foreign policy and EU relations with Latin America. Her research focuses on EU relations with Brazil and Latin America, multilateralism, regionalism, and foreign policy analysis.

She was assistant professor of international relations at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) in Brazil. Between 2012 and 2015 she was head of FGV’s Centre of International Relations. She is currently on extended leave, working as acting head of external policies at the European Parliament’s Research Service.

Elena holds a PhD in International Studies from the University of Cambridge, where she also completed her MPhil and post-doctoral studies. She has been a research associate at the University of Sheffield, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Athens and an associate of several think tanks in Europe and Latin America.

La Dra. Elena Lazarou es investigadora asociada en el Programa de Estados Unidos y las Américas de Chatham House, y aporta sus conocimientos sobre temas relacionados con la política brasileña y la política exterior y las relaciones de la UE con América Latina. Su investigación se centra en las relaciones de la UE con Brasil y América Latina, el multilateralismo, el regionalismo y el análisis de la política exterior.

Fue profesora adjunta de relaciones internacionales en la Fundación Getulio Vargas (FGV) en Brasil. Entre 2012 y 2015 fue directora del Centro de Relaciones Internacionales de la FGV. Actualmente se encuentra en una licencia prolongada, trabajando como jefa interina de políticas exteriores en el Servicio de Investigación del Parlamento Europeo.

Elena es doctora en Estudios Internacionales por la Universidad de Cambridge, donde también realizó su MPhil y estudios posdoctorales. Ha sido investigadora asociada en la Universidad de Sheffield, la London School of Economics and Political Science y la Universidad de Atenas, y asociada a varios think tanks en Europa y América Latina.
